چکیده
Halo nevi, also termed Sutton nevi, are defined as benign melanocytic nevi that are surrounded by an area of depigmentation resembling a halo. Halo nevi are common in children and young adults, with a mean age at onset of 15 years. The incidence in the population is estimated to be approximately 1%. Affected individuals frequently have multiple lesions which are usually localized on the back. A familial tendency for halo nevi has been reported. The etiology of halo nevi is unknown. It is an autoimmune response and T lymphocytes are considered to play a key role in the progressive destruction of nevus cells. Halo nevi may be associated with autoimmune disorders such as vitiligo, Hashimoto thyroiditis, alopecia areata, celiac disease, atopic dermatitis and others. It has been proved that halo nevi are detected after an intense sun exposure especially after sunburns. The etiology of halo nevi, association with malignant melanoma and the role of sun exposure in the development of halo nevi are discussed.

Immune-mediated destruction of melanocytes in halo nevi is associated with the local expansion of a limited number of T cell clones.
The beta-chain repertoire of the T cells that infiltrate spontaneously regressing nevi (the halo nevus phenomenon) was studied. In addition to the infiltration of the halo nevi by cutaneous lymphocyte-associated Ag-positive lymphocytes, oligoclonal expansion of T cells was observed in all halo nevi of all patients. T cells using the same TCR beta-chain were observed in distinct halo nevi of the...
متن کاملPigmented Skin Lesions in Children (Melanocytic Nevus, Clonal Nevus and Halo Nevus) — Symptoms and Treatment
Benign pigmented skin lesions are very common in children and can be generally classified into congenital or acquired nevi. Congenital nevi can be small, medium or large. Large nevi are usually associated with a higher risk of malignant transformation into melanoma. Acquired melanocytic nevi can be classified into typical melanocytic nevi, clonal nevi, or halo nevi. Cytological atypia can be ob...

We report a case of halo-phenomenon in excisional biopsy of junctional nevi in a 19-year-old girl. The diagnosis was established histopathologically because of the lack of clinical halo and unspecific dermoscopic features. Clinicopathologic difficulties in establishing the diagnosis of these pigmented lesions, etiopathogenesis and differential diagnosis of halo nevi are emphasized. Dermatologis...
متن کاملNevi presenting a halo: Sutton nevus, Meyerson nevus, and Wollina-Schaarschmidt halo-like dermatosis
The most common and well known is nevus Sutton or halo nevus first described in medical journals in 1916, where a hypopigmented area develops around a pre-existing melanocytic nevus. Halo nevi undergo specific sequelae: In Stage I the nevus remains brown, in stage II its pigment can disappear leading to a pink-colored papule. In stage III the central papule disappears, leading to a circular are...

HN: halo nevi RN: recurrent nevi RCM: reflectance confocal microscopy INTRODUCTION Melanocytic nevi change throughout a person’s life. Most melanocytic nevi are acquired during childhood and early adulthood; in later life, the prevalence of melanocytic nevi falls. Nevi frequently form, but the exact mechanisms involved in their generation remain unknown. Nevi usually progressively fade or, less...
